SASSY GARDEN! from Kwilty Pleasures

In 2010 Jane Sassaman had a line of fabric called Sunshine and Shadows,
that I fell in love with. A collection of beautiful Garden Prints that included
Coleus, Jack in the Pulpit, Twigs and Garden Tiles.
I often purge my stash but I just couldn't give this fabric up!
It sat in my stash until last year (2022) when
I found a pattern on PINTEREST I wanted to use.

The pattern was in a 2010 International Quilt Festival magazine that
was no longer in print. I ordered a digital copy of the magazine with
The "Avalon" pattern, by Elizabeth ...

HITCHHIKER AT THE BEACH from Kwilty Pleasures

Sometimes I get so busy with life that my blog posting gets lost!
I need to keep after this albeit old fashioned, in the social media world
It’s my creative journal and I use it often to find a detail or photo about a project.
My blog will carryon and I although I have many followers on IG
I hope someone out there is still following along!

I was at the beach this past spring and I took along an easy knitting project.
The Hitchhiker Scaf by Martina Behm.

Here are the details about the yarn.
I just LOVVVVVVE ...

BACK PAIN from Kwilty Pleasures

I have back pain...its not fun.
It can range from the arthritis to disk degeneration to a
a muscle hitting a sciatica nerve.
Sometime one or the other, sometimes all at once.

However, there is a back pain in quilting that is NOT physical
but mental and it involves fabric.
I like to piece the backings for my modern quilts.
Sometimes it is painful.

This is my Beachy Showers Quilt
and this is the process I used to make the backing...
using only fabrics I had in my stash.

I hang the quilt top on my design wall to ...

WHERE BEACHY SHOWERS HAPPEN from Kwilty Pleasures

When I am at the beach...
I make quilts.

When it rains at the beach...
I make quilts

The fabric in this quilt is called
April Showers

I named this quilt, Beachy Showers
for all those reasons.
And the first picture is a photo op
at the Beach Showers...how cool is that!

A BEACHY WONDER from Kwilty Pleasures

It was a kinda bright day at the beach,
but this baby quilt made with
Kate and Birdie ‘WONDER’
Had to be photographed at the BEACH!

The thing is the colors were totally lost
Whe I tried to lay the top on the sandy beach.
Sew this is what I did.

This is a public beach boardwalk entrance.

A shadier close up

A private park along the Intercostal Waterway.

And yep...I am a true trespasser!

Bit I want the pictures I want

I WONDER if you would bail me out if I am
ever arrested for BEACHY trespassing?

CHARITY SEWING 2021 from Kwilty Pleasures

I kicked off 2021 by sewing lots of quilts tops from my stash.
2020 gave me lots of time to rethink where and how
I will spend my volunteer time in 2021!
The Stitching Sisters is a local Columbus OH group that
I have been involved with, on and off, for many, many years.
My best friend who fought breast cancer in 2020 (now in remission)
received one of their quilts.  I decided it was time for me to
get back and give back to them.
You can read about the Stitching Sister's efforts here.

I had lots of ...

FLAG QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

Before July has slipped by...I wanted to share
my finished Stars and Stripes quilt,
 pattern by Thimbleblossoms.

I started this in 2019, making the blocks at a quilt retreat.
It is quick and easy but it sat in a pile of  "to quilt" projects.
My friend, Coleen Rains, offered to quilt this one
'on the house' as she learned about how to use
 her new longarm machine.

We played with a wave design
and decided a long soft wave was perfect.
Like a flag, gently waving in the wind.

Binding was blue/white and perfect to frame this ...

OUR 2020 SENIOR from Kwilty Pleasures

Our grandson, Daevaughn Chatman,
is a Senior in the Class of 2020

That means many heartbreaking things...
Missing the prom, graduation ceremony.
The longest ‘Senior Skip Day’ ever.
For me, it meant a graduation quilt!

I have a ga-zillion precuts and I found some
by Amy Ellis that read masculine.

I decided to use Charm Pack Cherry pattern.
Its quick and easy using charm packs!
Not too much fabric to pack for my winter snowbird adventure

The pattern is free over at the FQ Shop.
Click here to get your copy!

I began working on the quilt, in the small ...

2019 MYSTERIOUS SEWING from Kwilty Pleasures

Sew here's the MYSTERY!

Leigh Morgan was the coordinator for the Columbus Modern Quilters
2019 Mystery Quilt Challenge
Every other month we received a CLUE or directions
to make a part of the Mystery Quilt.

Clue 1 was to pick fabrics
I decided to pull from my stash and used 4 tones in each color way!
Clue 2 was to cut the fabrics
I made an index card that showed the colors and their labels.
This makes it easy to figure out what goes where
when sewing pieces together.

Clue 3
Sew this block, using specific fabrics
and a ...
